|Sarah Sze I Residency from June to December 2003
This American artist was born in 1969 and lives and works in New York.
Sarah Sze's work was featured at big events like the Berlin Biennial, and the Venice Bienniale in 1999. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, notably the 2000 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum in New York, and "Migrateurs" at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Her solo exhibitions are also featured at important art institutions like the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Art of London, the Foundation Cartier in Paris and at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York.
Sarah Sze's sculptures are arranged in the interiors of complex structures, as in labyrinth-type systems, inspired by urban construction and architecture.
For her installations, the artist collects small objects that she assembles and glues to a wooden or metal structure. Their positioning and placement are meticulously organized, the objects and structure together giving rhythm and movement to the work. Her installations are monumental constructions, rich and astounding, recalling the constant and vivacious improvisation of urban social fabric.
