|Peter Soriano I Residency from January to June 2004
Peter Soriano was born in Manila in 1959. He lives and works in New York. His work is regularly exhibited in both the United States and France.
Peter Soriano's work is first of all mental projections that are then realized from drawings by the creation of abstract objects in resin, metal or wood. The details of some of his sculptures evoke specific objects: mechanical pieces, toys, or human forms. But the object observed, each within it's grouping, very often in bright colors and rounded forms, remains indefinable.
The residency at the Atelier Calder allowed the artist to develop the concepts and techniques for new sculptures, searching to create different relationships between them. Some are linked one to the other by cloth straps, defining their own space, and thereby that of the viewer also. Others integrate a new process of creation by using computer technology, more precisely the artist's conception aided by the computer to allow the shaping of the objects in volume and size.
The sculptures by Peter Soriano produced at the Atelier Calder were exhibited at the FRAC Auvergne (regional contemporary art collection) in 2007, during a solo exhibition.
