Laurent Saksik I Residency from November 2001 to May 2002
This French artist, born in 1962, lives and works in Paris.
Laurent Saksik is interested in the visual consequences of color bound to the effects of light. In order to emphasize the lumino-chromatic phenomenon, he uses all sorts of materials likely to reflect, transmit, or absorb the radiance of light, both natural and artificial (glass, plastic, resin, aluminum). The research work is therefore an essential stage in the work of Laurent Saksik, who makes photographs, digital images and scale models, before proceeding to the final production of his works.
A part of the work produced at the Atelier Calder was featured in his solo exhibition "Premieres Divisions" at the Chateau of Azay le Rideau during the summer of 2001. The works Couleurs-Ecrans and Timbres attest to his research and experiments on color, whose results depend on exterior parameters that are entirely variable and unpredictable, daylight and atmospheric conditions.
Laurent Saksik has produced a series of scale models in collaboration with the students from Lycée Martin Nadaud of Saint Pierre des Corps in the larger educational project "Aux Arts Lycéens", funded by the Conseil Regional du Centre.
