Jean Clareboudt was born in 1944 and died in 1997.

Jean Clareboudt has had several solo exhibitions: at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona, le Rodin Museum, the Cartier Foundation in Paris, the Center for Contemporary Art in Montbéliard, and at the CREDAC Galerie Fernand Léger in Ivry-sur-Seine. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions: “Boîtes” (1975) at l’ARC 2, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris; “Sculpture/Nature” at the CAPC in Bordeaux (1978); another at the FRAC in Picardy (1985); “De la Abstraction à la Figuration” at the Galerie Convergences in Nantes (1990); and one at the Kampnagel Fabrik in Hamburg (1991).

Clareboudt created sculptures fully connected to the space where they were made or exhibited. They do not modify the space, but rather seek a new approach, a new perception.
All Clareboudt’s work is based in the idea of travel: his numerous voyages across the world reveal an insatiable curiosity that impelled him to search for new forms and compositions that were always enriched by contexts, natural as well as social that he experienced.

At the Atelier Calder, Clareboudt produced his series “
Passages”: sizable spheres in raw metal composed of two discs pierced in the center and then linked together. These sculptures present themselves as testimony of the natural context that surrounds them. The energy emanating from these sculptures comes through the raw metal that he used where the movement and gesture bear the imprint of his personal concept.
